Best Non-Fiction Books

I’ve always loved reading biographies but I’ve outdone myself this year. I read many biographies this year especially because I was researching for a children’s books series that I’m working on. So, among the non-fiction books that I will be mentioning in this video, three are biographies:

Reading this book makes it clear that the author is passionate about his subject and has done his research well. The book is not just a biography of AR but is also a walk down the memory lane for the period between 1980 and 2000 when Tamil cinema and film music underwent a significant change.

Einstein is the architect of the modern world. His life is a lesson in overcoming hardships, being a rebel, positivity and perseverance. Walter has done an amazing job once again in writing a readable and enjoyable biography that is fascinating, comprehensive and gripping.

C.V. Raman is the first non-white and the first Asian to be awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics. Raman strove to pass on his knowledge among his countrymen. This biography gives a vivid account of his childhood years, his relationships and travels. It is a peek into one of the greatest minds India has produced.

Before talking about this book, let me include a disclaimer. I’m a fan of two things – first, Stoicism, and second, Ryan Holiday. In fact, I still remember the butterflies in my stomach on the day that Ryan had liked my tweet. So, it is no wonder that I like this book. This book is a daily devotional of Stoic quotes, insights and commentary and reading a page a day, from this book, is one of the things that I love to do.

Most of you must have heard of the book, ‘How to Read a Book’ by Mortimer. This is a companion to that one and talks about how to be an effective communicator. What I liked about this book is how it is instructive and practical. He talks about how salesmen must give their sales talk, how lectures must be conducted, how to prepare and deliver a speech andhow we can improve communication among family members.

Do you have any recommendations among non-fiction books? I would love to add them to my list. Please comment below.
